چکیده

In the present work, a synthetic effluent of phenol was treated by means of a total oxidation process—Catalyzed Wet Oxidation (CWO). A mixed oxide of Mn-Ce (7:3), the catalyst, was synthesized by co-precipitation from an aqueous solution of MnCl2 and CeCl3 in a basic medium. The mixed oxide, MnO2/CeO2, was characterized and used in the oxidation of phenol in a slurry reactor in the temperature range of 80-130oC and pressure of 2.04-4.76 MPa. A phenol solution containing 2.4-dichlorophenol and 2.4dichlorophenoxyacetic acid was also degraded with good results. A lumped kinetic model, with two parallel reaction steps, fits precisely with the integrated equation and the experimental data. The kinetic parameters obtained are in agreement with the Arrhenius equation. The activation energies were determined to be 38.4 for the total oxidation and 53.4 kJ/mol for the organic acids formed.

Wet air oxidation of phenol using active carbon as catalyst

Catalytic wet air oxidation is a promising alternative for the treatment of phenolic waste water which cannot be treated in conventional sewage plants. Catalytic wet air oxidation of an aqueous phenol solution was conducted in a ®xed bed reactor operating in trickle ̄ow regime. Either active carbon or a commercial copper oxide supported over -alumina was used as catalyst. The performance of bot...

Catalytic wet oxidation of phenol and its derivatives with Fe2O3 and MnO2

Wet oxidation of phenol, 2-chlorophenol, 4-chlorophenol and 2-nitrophenol over iron oxide and manganese dioxide catalysts was tested in this work with or without hydrogen peroxide in the reaction mixture. Influence of factors such as catalyst load, reactant-hydrogen peroxide mole ratio, and reaction time was monitored for all the phenols. Increase in the amount of hydrogen peroxide in the feed ...

Kinetics of phenol oxidation in a trickle bed reactor over active carbon catalyst

The wet air oxidation of phenol over a commercial active carbon catalyst was studied in a trickle bed reactor (TBR) in the temperature and oxygen partial pressure ranges of 120–160 ◦C and 0.1–0.2 MPa, respectively. The performance of the active carbon was compared in terms of phenol and COD destruction. The weight change of active carbon due to reaction was also measured. Finally, oxic phenol a...

Bimetallic catalysts for continuous catalytic wet air oxidation of phenol.

Catalytic wet oxidation has proved to be effective at eliminating hazardous organic compounds, such as phenol, from waste waters. However, the lack of active long-life oxidation catalysts which can perform in aqueous phase is its main drawback. This study explores the ability of bimetallic supported catalysts to oxidize aqueous phenol solutions using air as oxidant. Combinations of 2% of CoO, F...

Influence of textural properties and iron content on the activated carbon performance for catalytic wet air oxidation of phenol

Catalytic Wet Oxidation is a promising treatment for wastewater containing refractory compounds, such as phenol. Activated carbon has demonstrated to perform as catalyst in wet oxidation, however it is not fully understood its role as catalyst. This study aims to clarify the effect of metal content, specifically iron and calcium, on the performance of a commercial activated carbon. Several modi...
